Q: What is a tap jam? A: A tap jam is a jam session with an emphasis on the tap dancer. It is a place for tap dancers to improvise with a live jazz band as well as with other dancers/musicians.
Q: Are only tap dancers allowed? A: Most people who come to the jam are not dancers or musicians, just those who love to see and hear the performances. Of course, if you are a tap dancer, you are welcome to join the jam.
Q: Do you have to be a professional to join in? A: No, the performers at the jam are both amateurs and professionals.
Q: Can under-18s come to the jam? A: This Tap Jam is open to tap dancers ages 10 and up. All under 18 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Q: What is the pre-jam stage? A: The pre-jam stage is an opportunity before the event starts for tap dancers to try improvisation in a more low key environment. It’s a chance for every tap dancer to have a go at improvising, before the main jam gets started. Rae will lead newcomers and the nervous in improvisation exercises.
